Class of 2003
Updates
Update from John Traversi '03 After four years of animal training, I have been accepted to veterinary school and will leave in January. ~John (December 6, 2007) Update on Kassie Rohrbach `03 I feel kind of silly sending this along, but I thought you guys would be interested to know that I was in the most recent issue of Vanity Fair. I've attached a copy of the picture. I'm the one in the purple shirt on the left, standing on the orange fork lift. ~Kassie (April 23, 2007) Update from Lauren Hartzell '03 I just returned from my big South America adventure! I had an amazing experience during my NOLS 'Patagonia Year' as well as during the rest of my travels. I set up a personal website with tons of photos (my Ecuador pictures will be posted shortly). I'll be returning to Stanford in a few weeks to dive back into my dissertation work. I'm actually quite ready and excited about settling back down after being on the move for so long. My website: http://web.mac.com/laurenhartzell/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html Update on Scott Epstein `03 I am working for a small environmental consulting firm in Colorado, working on a variety of transportation, property transaction, and development projects. I even have my hydrology textbook from Doug's class in my office that I use on a variety of projects. (Christine-you would be happy to know I will be getting out some plant identification books next week to start working on a categorical exclusion project.) Other than that the small company has been a great fit for me, giving me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects (lots of learning opportunities) and even to gain some project management experience. Colorado is a great place to live-lots of skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and biking-although I seem to spend all my money on various pieces of equipment. ~Scott
Vetri is in his second year of the PhD program in the Department of French and Italian at Stanford University in California. I am the co-founder and a Steering Committee member of Energy Action-a Coalition of Youth United for Clean Energy. Also, I am a program associate for the Green-e Renewable Energy certification
program at The Center for Resource Solutions in San Francisco, CA. The
Green-e Program sets consumer protection and environmental standards for
electricity products, and verifies that Green-e certified products meet
these standards. I am in charge of the compliance review, which is a bi-annual
review of the marketing materials that our certified renewable energy
providers use to sell their products. Interested in buying green power

`03 Graduate school is hard! I love (almost) every minute of it though. I sold my SUV and now commute by bike to and from school. It’s funny how in CA everyone loves their SUV's, yet it is one of the best places to be a bicycle-commuter. So, even though I have focused my attention away from studying the environment, I am living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle than ever before. Sunny California...and everything I learned in CCBES...is making me a better person...at least environmentally speaking. ~Lauren
I'm enjoying my job here at Essex Elementary (teaching 4th grade). I'm living in Madison right next to the beach, which is fantastic. I recently went to a day-long workshop for the CT River Salmon Restoration project, in which our 4th grade participates. Somehow I was delegated to be in charge of it in our school this year, so I have a huge insulated tank waiting in my room for the delivery of these salmon eggs in January. It sounds pretty neat though, and listening to the speakers at the workshop made me realize that the last time I heard anybody speak about an environmental issue was last spring in CCBES. I think my students will really enjoy the project. Time to get back to report cards.
